PEMA MY INTENTIONS ARE GOOD

Austin/NYC-based artist pema - real name Alex Cohen - has made an immediate impression with her wonderful debut outing. 'My Intentions Were Good' is the first look at her Doublethink album, due 3 June via Wishy Washy Records and what a glorious insight it is: the spacey, hypnotic hue created by gently glitchy, building layers of production is beautifully contagious and the punchy, beat-led chorus ensures it's a cut that gets neatly lodged between the ears from first listen. Taken from the Orwellian 'Newspeak' term, Doublethink is set to be an intelligent, thought-provoking full-length, as Cohen explains, "In the face of this uncertainty, it’s common for our thoughts and our actions to be wildly inconsistent." This may be the case, but one thing's for sure, pema's intentions, and the musical results, are entirely good. -G.O'B
